The Integrated Temperature Measurement System which you see here has worked with great success in the pipeline industry, Prover Tanks, Small Volume Provers, and Petroleum Storage facilities as well as products truck termilnals.  It is a simple yet extremely accurate temperature measurement system helping to significantly reduce unacceptable gains and losses and station balances.  Equally as important to the individual utlilizing this system is the fact that accurate temperature readings to 0.1F can be obtained within seconds as opposed to the time necessary to temper a glass thermometer to the liquid or thermowell temperature.  The digital readout in the TM99A single-zone, SH44A dual-zone or the SH66A three-zone electronic thermometers eliminates error in reading temperature.  Anyone familiar with reading glass thermometers is familiar with the possibility of parallax error when trying to align the eye with the mercury column. 

The simplified drawing here can be utilized at practically any location where accurate temperature readings are important.  To begin, the intrinsically-safe TM99A-UL shown in the picture is but one of the temperature devices which can be utilized - the others being the SH44A for reading temperatures from two sources such as Small Volume Provers or the SH66A which allows for reading temperatures from three different sources such as Atmospheric Prover Cans.  All of the units can be used in most pipeline and storage situations

The 8000 Series Electronic Probe can be permanently mounted in a thermowell or, if needed, the 1100 Series Insertion Probe (See Electronic Probes) can be used to read temperatures in multiple thermowells where permanently mounted probes are not desired.  The 8000 Series probe is connected to the electronic thermometer by a Connecting Cord.  The cord shown is a 3-4 ft coil cord but connecting cords can be made to any length to fit your needs.  An example of the need for different length cords would be connecting two or three probes to an electronic thermometer situated at a central location.

Before installing the 8000 Series probe into a thermowell, we recommend injecting a small amount of ThermaCreme into the well to create a good temperature transfer medium between the wall of the thermowell and the sensing tip of the probe. An alternate to the ThermaCreme would be mineral oil in well that are vertically mounted.  The ThermaCreme would be an excellent choice for horizontally installed wells where a liquid would flow out of the well.  In any instance, however, it is necessary to have a medium in the well that maintains good contact between the probe sensor and the well.  The need holds true, also, when using a glass thermometer.  The ThermaCreme can be installed with a simple injection gun and injection tube into any length of well.

The Prover/Calibrator Box is an optional piece of equipment which can be used to check the temperature instrument on a daily basis or as needed.  It checks the thermometer at the 32F, 72F and 120F positions.
